How to: Remove a specific video decompression file (CODEC).
Solution:
In the 'Control Panel' window, double-click the 'Multimedia' icon and click the 'Advanced' tab. Double-click 'Video Compression Codecs' and select the desired video decompression file. Click 'Properties', click 'Remove', and click 'OK' three times.
1) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
2) Select 'Settings' and select 'Control Panel'. (The 'Control Panel' window appears.)

3) Double-click the 'Multimedia' icon. (The 'Multimedia Properties' dialog box appears.)

4) Click the 'Advanced' tab. (The 'Advanced' tabbed page appears.)
5) Double-click 'Video Compression Codecs' to expand the list of installed CODEC devices.
6) Select the video CODEC device to be removed.
7) Click 'Properties'. (The '<device> Properties' dialog box for the particular CODEC device appears, where <device> is the name of the selected video compression device.)

8) Click 'Remove'. (The 'Remove' dialog box appears.)

9) Click 'Yes' to remove the video CODEC device. (The 'Device Removed' dialog box appears.)
10) Click 'OK'. (The 'Device Removed' dialog box appears.)
11) Click 'OK'. (The 'Multimedia Properties' dialog box reappears.)
12) Click 'OK' to close the 'Multimedia Properties' dialog box.
13) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Close' to close the 'Control Panel' window.
NOTE: The changes will not take effect until the computer is restarted.
14) (Optional) Restart the computer:
a) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
b) Select 'Shut Down...'. (The 'Shut Down Windows' dialog box appears.)
c) Select the 'Restart the computer' radio button and click 'Yes'. (The computer restarts.)
